James's Story

"Hope Housing gave me a home, a fresh start and the opportunity to completely rebuild my life."

James arrived at Hope Housing in September 2019 following rehabilitation. He had nowhere to live and was struggling to rebuild his life after years of addiction and personal difficulties. At the time, he describes himself as being lost and unsure of who he was or where his future was heading.

Hope Housing provided James with more than accommodation. Through regular counselling, structured support and a stable environment, he was given the opportunity to focus on recovery and personal development.

During his time at Hope Housing, James became involved in activities including yoga sessions, which had a significant impact on his wellbeing. His interest in yoga led to a scholarship opportunity and ultimately became an important part of his recovery journey.

With encouragement from staff, James returned to education, retook his GCSE English and completed an Access to Higher Education course. His hard work and determination eventually secured him a place at Loughborough University, where he is now studying Sport and Exercise Psychology.

James spent three years at Hope Housing, progressing from shared accommodation into a smaller flat as he gained confidence and independence. He credits Hope Housing with providing the foundation that enabled him to transform his life.

Today, James continues his university studies, works during the summer supporting international students and remains committed to helping others. He believes Hope Housing gave him the opportunity to start again and create a future filled with purpose, education and hope.
