Struggles are real. But so is hope.

“YOU MATTER” Hope Housing Counselling Service

One-to-One Counselling for Residents

Hope Housing provides one-to-one counselling for every resident as part of our unique person-centred support model, recognising that emotional wellbeing is a key part of recovery, stability, and moving forward.

This valuable service is delivered by a dedicated team of trained counsellors and trainee counsellors in the final year of their counselling studies, who generously volunteer their time to support our residents. Their work provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where individuals can talk openly, explore challenges, and work through personal issues that may be affecting their wellbeing.

Each resident is offered weekly counselling sessions, helping to create consistency, trust, and the opportunity for meaningful progress over time. Counselling can support residents with issues such as trauma, anxiety, addiction, grief, low self-esteem, difficult relationships, and building emotional resilience.

Managed by Lisa Everett

All counselling services at Hope Housing are overseen by Lisa Everett, Director of Services and a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS No: NCS22-02032).

Lisa provides additional supervision to the counselling team and ensures all counselling practice follows the NCPS Ethical Framework, maintaining high standards of professionalism, safety, and confidentiality throughout the service.

Through weekly sessions and ongoing therapeutic support, counselling plays an important role in helping residents better understand themselves, build confidence, and develop healthier ways of coping as they move towards greater independence.

Understanding Counselling

What is Counselling?
Counselling provides a safe, confidential space for individuals to discuss challenges and emotions. It offers the opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings deeply, helping individuals make meaningful changes in their lives.

How Does Counselling Help?
Counsellors don’t give directives; instead, they guide residents to talk through their thoughts, helping to uncover root issues and develop personalised coping strategies, gaining an awareness of their behaviours and feelings.

Counselling can support people with many different issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, addiction, low self-esteem, stress, or major life changes. It can also help when someone simply feels overwhelmed and needs space to talk.

For many people, counselling provides:

  • A safe place to be heard

  • Greater self-awareness

  • Emotional support

  • Improved coping strategies

  • Increased confidence in making decisions

  • Better understanding of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours

Counselling is not about being “given answers” — it is about being supported to find your own understanding, strengths, and way forward.

In 2022, we proudly opened our Quiet Rooms, made possible through the generous support of Dorset Freemasonry, the Solent Area of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Masons, and the Masonic Charitable Foundation – Dorset Masonic Care.

Overlooking the peaceful Hope gardens, these dedicated spaces provide a calm, private, and welcoming environment for residents to access one-to-one counselling, training, and education.

The Quiet Rooms have become an important part of Hope Housing’s support model, offering a confidential setting where residents can focus, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations away from the distractions of daily life. Whether used for counselling sessions, personal development work, or learning opportunities, they create a space where people can feel safe, heard, and supported.

These rooms continue to play a valuable role in helping residents build confidence, develop new skills, and work through personal challenges as they move towards greater stability and independence.
